Blues-Klassiker und Blues-Rock aus den 60er und 70er Jahren sind der Hauptbestandteil der Blues Küche. Hier werden meistens Schallplatten gespielt, die älter als 20 Jahre sind. Alte Aufnahmen, die bis in die 20er Jahre zurückreichen, machen die Geschichte des Blues hörbar. Einflüsse historischer Bluesmusiker auf spätere Generationen und andere Zusammenhänge werden dadurch veranschaulicht. Unbekannte Versionen bekannter Stücke, akustische Gitarrenmusik (z. B. Fingerpicking) und deutschsprachige Titel runden das Programm ab.

Blues Klassiker

aus 100 Jahren Bluesgeschichte gibt es dieses Mal in der Blues Kitchen, mit dem klassischen Kernthema des Blues, der Beziehung zwischen Mann und Frau. Unerfüllte Liebe, Eifersucht, und die gegenseitigen Vorwürfe über "schlechte Behandlung" und Lieblosigkeit waren und sind die Archetypen des Blues, die wohl in jedem zweiten Blues überhaupt zur Sprache kommen. Dieses Mal eine schöne Auswahl schöner, melancholischer Songs, mitunter auch mit einem gewissen Augenzwinkern.

Johnny Winter

war einer der bedeutensten Musiker des Texas-Blues und einer der weltbesten Gitarristen. am 16. Juli verstarb er im alter von 70 Jahren nahe Zürich - natürlich auf Tournee. Die August-Ausgabe der Blues Kitchen widmet diesem einzigartigen Bluesmusiker volle 2 Stunden und zeigt eine Retroperspektive seines Schaffens.

Mojo Hand, Black Cat Bone und John the Conquer Root

sind die kleinen magischen Helfer aus dem Voodoo-Kult, die in den Texten zahlreicher Blues-Songs immer wieder genannt werden, meist dann wenn es mit dem (Liebes-)glück etwas hapert. In den Blues-Songs ging im Laufe der Zeit die ursprüngliche rituelle Bedeutung dieses Aberglaubens mehr und mehr verloren, oder veränderte sich, so daß heute wohl die meisten Blues-Sänger gar nicht mehr so genau wissen, was sie da eigentlich singen, wenn sie Fragmente alter Stücke in denen von Mojo Hand und Black Cat Bone die Rede ist, zitieren. In der Sendung soll der Frage "Was ist ein Mojo?" mal auf den Grund gegangen werden, natürlich auch mit der passenden Musik dazu.
